What time is your lunch time? Is it the same as your friends? Unfortunately, it is probably different, so you often have to have lunch alone. The problem is that most restaurants are set up for groups, which makes it uncomfortable when you have to eat alone.

To help you out, we discovered several restaurants especially good for lone diners: Mommy’s Handmade Cut Noodle, Urakku Kitchen, Jin Noodle and The Fruit Between Breads.

Mommy’s Handmade Cut Noodle

Opening time:
Address:
Main customers: day laborers, older people and students
Price: 5000 ~ 7000

Sometimes you want a Korean traditional lunch, especially when you skip breakfast. Of course, there are some Korean restaurants selling this, including hot soup. As you know, however, the shops which are well known are so expensive.

Is there no alternative? The answer is “YES! Mommy’s Handmade Cut Noodle.” You can guess that the main dish here is cut noodle, because of the name. But I recommend hot soup and roasted meat with sauce. Most of the roasted meats with sauce dishes sell for \6000 and the hot Korean soups sell for \5000. If you want to eat more, just ask the owner. She’ll give more rice and side dishes.

This restaurant is popular for the people who live or work near the university because of the reasonable price and the quality of food.

The appearance is humble, but comfortable and familiar. You will find some big stairs, wooden tables and an old television, so you may think you are in a unique space.

Urakku Kitchen

Opening time: 11:30
Address: 24, Ewhayeodae 2ga-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Korea
Main customers: students
Price: \7500

Urakku Kitchen is a Japanese restaurant located nearby the main gate of Ewha Woman’s University. You may find the restaurant next to Mr. Pizza. Urakku kitchen has long tables so that people who come by themselves can enjoy their meals as well as those who come in groups of two.

The restaurant has three meal types: kimchi gatsunabe (which is a stew made of kimchi and pork cutlet), Gatsudong (which is a bowl of rice with several vegetables and pork cutlet), and garayakedong (which is similar to gatsudong but made with chicken, not with pork cutlet). Kimchi gatsunabe is the most popular meal. Also, their prices are reasonable: all meals cost 7,500 won!

In the restaurant, we feel like we are in Japan. Because of its atmosphere and taste, many students visit the popular restaurant for lunch, so it is common to wait for 30 minutes or so.

Urakku Kitchen opens at 11:30 and has its break time from 3 to 4. It takes the last order at 7 and closes at 8. The restaurant doesn’t open on weekends.

Between classes, if you do not have any friends who are available at the moment, how about trying Japanese traditional food for lunch?
